Reading Fightin Phils News Release

The Reading Fightin Phils stunned the Hartford Yard Goats to win both games of the doubleheader on Thursday. Reading took the first game 4-1 and the second 1-0 in an electrifying manner.

Game 1 - BOX SCORE | REA 4, HFD 1

The contest began in a pitcher's duel was both starters did not allow a base runner through three.

Aldrem Corredor had the first hit of the night with a slow roller to short. Logan O'Hoppe brought him home with a two-run shot, his ninth of the season, to left to make it 2-0.

Hartford cut the lead in half in the bottom half as Aaron Schunk singled home a run.

The Fightins tacked on one more as Vito Friscia crossed the plate on Ali Castillo's base knock. The final score was Reading 4, Harford 1.

James McArthur took the win throwing five innings of one run ball. He allowed six hits and struck out five.

Ofreidy Gomez took the save pitching the final two frames completely clean.

Game 2 - BOX SCORE | REA 1, HFD 0

Another strong pitching contest for game two of the doubleheader allowed for just a combined 8 hits and one run.

In the top of the fourth, Jhailyn Ortiz had a solo shot, his ninth of the season, to score the only run of the contest.

Both teams had other opportunities but couldn't drive home a run.

Things got interesting in the bottom of the seventh inning however. Brian Marconi came in for the save. He walked a batter, let up a hit, and walked another to load the bases. With two outs and the bases loaded, Jimmy Herron flew out to left. Jack Conley rocketed the ball to home and Friscia tagged the tying run out at the plate.

Erik Miller got the start, throwing two innings. He allowed three hits and two walks.

Matt Seelinger and McKinley Moore both had two clean innings, not allowing a baserunner.

Marconi took the save in the ninth, getting out of a jam scoreless.
