Patriots and Rumble Ponies Split Double Header

Binghamton, NY - The Somerset Patriots (30-17) and Binghamton Rumble Ponies (18-29) split Thursday night's doubleheader as the Rumble Ponies took game one 5-3 and the Patriots took game two 6-4.

Game 1:

The Patriots jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Jesus Bastidas (4) clubbed a two-run blast, his third home run over his last four games.

Binghamton got a run back in the bottom of the second as a Jeremy Vasquez sacrifice fly brought Luke Ritter in to score and cut the deficit to 2-1.

A Rumble Ponies throwing error on an Anthony Volpe ground ball in the fifth inning allowed Bastidas to score, extending the Patriots lead to 3-1.

Francisco Alvarez plated Wyatt Young on a base hit in the bottom of the fifth to bring the Rumble Ponies within one, before Ronny Mauricio (7) crushed a go-ahead three-run home run to give Binghamton a 5-3 victory in the opener.

Jose Butto (2-4) earned the win for Binghamton, striking out 11 batters over six innings of work, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits. Andrew Mitchell recorded his first save of the season in a perfect seventh inning with a strikeout.

Will Warren (0-1) got the loss in his Double-A debut, giving up five runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings of work.

Game 2:

Chad Bell (5) gave Somerset a 2-0 lead in the second inning with a two-run home run, knocking in his team-leading 23rd RBI on the season.

Binghamton scored a run in the bottom half of the frame on a Patriots throwing error that allowed Ritter to score on a Manny Rodriguez ground ball, cutting Somerset's lead to 2-1.

The Rumble Ponies then tied the game at two on an RBI double by Quinn Brodey in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Alvarez.

Brandon Lockridge broke the tie with an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning, scoring Andres Chaparro, who doubled for the second time in the game the prior at-bat.

Binghamton re-tied the ball game in the bottom of the sixth on a Wyatt Young sacrifice fly, scoring Manny Rodriguez.

The game remained tied until extra innings, when Lockridge led off the top of the eighth inning with an RBI double, scoring Max Burt.

Rodolfo Duran then added a pair of insurance runs on a double, bringing home Lockridge and Blake Perkins and extending Somerset's lead to 6-3.

Binghamton got a run back in the bottom half of the inning on a Rodriguez sacrifice fly, dropping game two by a score of 6-4.

Barrett Loseke (5-0) earned the win, allowing an unearned run on a hit in two innings of relief with a strikeout.

Antonio Santos (0-1) took the loss, allowing three runs on two hits in an inning of work.
