Reading Goes Deep for 3-1 Win over the Sens

Harrisburg Senators News Release
Friday evening in Harrisburg, the Senators dropped game one of a four-game series to the Reading Phillies by a score of 3-1. Both teams received eight inning efforts from their starting pitchers, with LHP Mike Ballard going for Harrisburg and RHP Jonathan Pettibone for the R-Phils.
Despite each team ranking in the bottom third in the Eastern League in home-runs, the game was decided with the long ball. Reading's Tyson Gillies opened the scoring in the third when he hit his second home-run of the reason. That was followed up in the sixth with Darin Ruf depositing a long home-run to left-field for his eighth of the season.
Harrisburg didn't wait long to respond as in the bottom half of the frame, Jose Lozada slugged his first homer of the season, to make it a 2-1 game.
However, in the visiting half of the eighth it was again Darin Ruf homering to left field to give Reading a 3-1 lead.
Harrisburg would put rallies together in the eighth and ninth innings, but the Senators could not find a clutch hit to try to help erase the deficit. The Senators, who stranded ten base-runners on the night, left two aboard in each of the final two innings.
Jonathan Pettibone improved to 4-4 on the season, while Mike Ballard fell to 1-4 for the Sens. Justin Friend recorded his 10th save, in as many opportunities.
Game two of the series is Saturday evening at Metro Bank Park, with a scheduled 7:00 p.m. first pitch. Harrisburg sends RHP Paul Demny to the mound against Reading RHP Drew Naylor. The game can be heard locally on 1460am WTKT, and either through the Senators website or through the iHeart Radio application on mobile devices. Coverage begins at 6:40 p.m. with the Senators Pre-Game Show.
