Erie, PA - Erie left fielder Wade Gaynor ripped a three-run homer during a seven-run fourth inning Friday night, as the SeaWolves won the opener of a four-game series, 7-3, at Jerry Uht Park.
The game was scoreless entering the fourth, but the first seven Erie batters in the bottom of the fourth inning hit safely and scored against Akron starter T.J. McFarland (8-2). Shortstop Niuman Romero had a two-run triple, and Gaynor belted his second homer of the season, a three-run line drive to left to cap the fireworks at seven runs.
The rally yielded season-highs for runs and hits in a single inning against the Aeros this year.
McFarland, the reigning EL Pitcher of the Week, came back to work the fifth. He recorded seven strikeouts, but saw his six-game winning streak come to an end.
Erie starter Ramon Garcia (3-3) won for the third time against the Aeros this season. He worked into the seventh, throwing 107 pitches, 70 of them for strikes. He walked only two batters and struck out seven.
Tim Fedroff had two RBI's for the Aeros. Catcher Michel Hernandez went 3-3, including his fifth double. Chun Chen went 0-4, snapping his seven game hitting streak.
The Aeros (28-17) will continue the series with Erie on Saturday night. RHP Brett Brach (1-1, 4.26) will oppose Erie RHP Zack Segovia (4-4, 5.36). Following the series with the SeaWolves, the Aeros will return to Canal Park on Tuesday, May 29th. All Aeros games are broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com.
