Reading Drops Opener in Bowie, 4-2

(BOWIE, MD) - In a matchup between two playoff hopefuls on Monday night, the Reading Fightin Phils lost a late lead in falling 4-2 to Bowie in their first meeting with the Baysox at Prince George's Stadium.

Reading (24-17) (63-45) grabbed the lead in the top of the third, snapping Dean Kremer's 15.1 innings scoreless streak.

Henri Lartigue jumped on the first pitch of frame and lifted an opposite-field home run out to left, his second straight game going yard, giving Reading a 1-0 lead.

Reading extended its advantage in the fourth, after Darick Hall worked a one-out walk, and Josh Stephen followed with a single up the middle. Jose Gomez knocked a grounder that deflected off the mitt of Kremer and into shallow right, scoring Hall to make it 2-0.

Yusniel Diaz, Carlos Perez, and Jesmuel Valentin connected for three-straight singles to plate the first run for Bowie (28-10) (58-48). Seabold managed to work out of it and keep the lead in tact, getting Rylan Bannon to ground into a force out at second before a passed ball advanced Bannon into scoring positon.

Seabold struck out Martin Cervenka, then got Preston Palmeiro to ground to second to end the frame with Reading up 2-1.

Seabold tossed four innings in the no-decision, permitting one run on five hits and two walks, while striking out six.

Garrett Cleavinger worked around two hits and two walks to deal two scoreless in relief, and Jonathan Hennigan (2-3) hurled a scoreless seventh before the Baysox rallied to take the lead in the eighth.

Yusniel Diaz opened with a walk, and with one out, Valentin reached on an error on the third baseman Alec Bohm. Bannon followed with a comebacker off Hennigan that caromed up the middle for a two-run single to put Bowie on top, 3-2.

After singles from Cervenka and Palmeiro loaded the bases, Mason McCoy's base hit through the left side extended the Baysox lead to 4-2.

The Fightins take on Bowie in game two of the three-game series on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. on 610 ESPN and the Fightins radio network.
