San Antonio Missions News Release

A well balanced offense helped San Antonio to a 7-2 win over Midland in Sunday afternoon's series finale at Wolff Stadium.

On the hill Sunday for San Antonio was ace right-hander Colin Rea, who fell behind 1-0 in the first when he allowed a two-out, RBI single to Renato Nunez. The run snapped Rea's scoreless streak at a club-high 18 innings.

The Missions got on the board themselves in the bottom of the third against starter Chris Jensen, plating two on a Taylor Lindsey double and a throwing error by Nunez.

After Midland evened the score at two in the top of the fourth on a Bruce Maxwell single, San Antonio came back strong in its half. Hunter Renfroe led off the frame with a double into right center and quickly moved to third when Yeison Asencio followed with an infield single. That brought up Alberth Martinez, who gave the Missions the lead for good with a base knock to left center. Two batters later, Lindsey made the score 4-2 when he lifted a sacrifice fly to center.

The fourth-inning rally made a winner out of Rea (3-2), who allowed six hits and no walks, while striking out five over seven strong innings.

San Antonio broke the game open on Jensen (5-7) with a three-run seventh. Casey McElroy drove in the first two runs of the frame with a double down the left-field line. Renfroe capped scoring when he followed with his second two-bagger of the game.

After rehabber Cory Luebke kept the 'Hounds off the board in the eighth, Tayron Guerrero worked a perfect ninth to snap the Missions' season-high, five-game home losing streak.

San Antonio finished the game with 11 hits, which included multi-hit efforts from Travis Jankowski, Renfroe and Martinez.

Following the Texas League All-Star Break, San Antonio (2-4, 33-43) will next be in action Thursday night when they open up a six-game road trip with the first of three against the Springfield Cardinals (2-3, 32-43 - playing Sunday night at Arkansas). First pitch from Hammons Field Thursday is set for 7:10 PM. Bryan Rodriguez (3-9, 4.62) will get the start for the Missions in Thursday's opener. The Cardinals have yet to announce a starter.

Notes: The 79th Annual Texas League All-Star Game will be held Tuesday night at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, TX. San Antonio is sending four players to the ASG: starting outfielder Travis Jankowski and right-handers Tayron Guerrero, Justin Hancock and Rea. First pitch Tuesday is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
