Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - Jio Mier and Tyler White combined for five runs batted in and Josh Hader evened his record at 3-3 as Corpus Christi bounced Frisco 7-2 Sunday at Whataburger Field before 4,318.

The Hooks (51-25; 3-3) managed a split of the four-game series going into the all-star break. Frisco stands 32-44 and 3-3.

Hader, who fanned five over five innings and 84 pitches (56), allowed just one hit - Preston Beck's second-inning single. He walked Beck two innings later. Both Frisco runs on Hader's watch were unearned.

Juan Minaya whiffed three while working the sixth and seventh. Chris Cotton and Aaron West threw a scoreless frame each.

The Hooks jumped on Andrew Faulkner (6-4) for a run in the first. With one out, Brett Phillips singled into right field. The speedster scored all the way from first when White followed suit.

Mier's second-inning lead-off double on a sinking liner almost snagged by center fielder Ryan Cordell conveyed into the second Corpus Christi run. An out later, Brett Booth plated Mier by dumping a single into left.

Corpus Christi broke the game open during the third. As Mier stood at the plate, Phillips (hit-by-pitch) at second, and Conrad Gregor (walk) at first, Teoscar Hernandez executed a two-out straight steal of home. On the next pitch, Mier smacked a three-run homer to left.

The RoughRiders picked up a pair in the fifth, Luis Marte and Cordell credited with RBIs after producing a sacrifice fly and single, respectively.

But White's seventh round-tripper made it 7-2 Hooks through five. That was all for Faulkner, accountable for seven hits, a walk, and three strikeouts.

CITGO presents the 79th Texas League All-Star Game at Whataburger Field Tuesday. First pitch is 7:30. The Gulf Coast Federal Credit Union FanFest begins at 3, the Stripes Home Run Derby at 5:45.

Stadium gates open at 4 o'clock.
