Arizona Rattlers News Release
MESA, Ariz. - The Arizona Rattlers sign former Texas A&M dual threat signal caller QB JERROD JOHNSON.
Johnson joins the Rattlers after finishing up training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles. Prior to his time with the Eagles, Johnson was selected by the Hartford Colonials (now defunct) as the number one overall pick in the 2011 United Football League Draft.
"I feel really good about this opportunity," said Johnson. "I've paid a lot of attention to the Arena Football League, and the quarterbacks get the opportunity to throw the ball quite a bit. I am excited to be a part of the Arizona Rattlers organization."
In his junior season at Texas A&M, Johnson put together his best outing, throwing for 3,579 yards, with 30 touchdowns to just eight interceptions, and rushing for 506 yards and eight scores - helping the quarterback earn Second Team All-Big 12 honors.
Johnson made many of his plays on his feet, rushing for 877 yards on 331 carries, scoring 16 touchdowns. He is a Texas A&M career leader in passing yards (8,011) and all-purpose yards (8,888). The 6'5", 250 lb. quarterback showed his playmaking ability from 2007-2010 at Texas A&M, completing 650-of-1,109 passes for 8,011 yards, throwing 67 touchdowns and 27 interceptions in his career as an Aggie.
Johnson participated in the 2011 East-West Shrine Game following his senior season at Texas A&M.
