Spokane Shock News Release
Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock announced today that former players Clay Harrell and Stanley Franks have been added to Head Coach Andy Olson's staff. Harrell will serve as the Offensive and Defensive Line Coach while Franks will oversee the secondary as the Defensive Back Coach.
Harrell spent the last two years of his five-year playing career in Spokane, where accumulated 129 yards with eight rushing touchdowns. A versatile player, Harrell lined up on both sides of the ball throughout his career as a fullback, offensive lineman and a defensive lineman.
Franks burst onto the Arena Football scene in 2009 and was a key ingredient in Spokane's Championship season, leading the team in tackles (97.5) and adding eight interceptions with 17 pass break-ups.
His success in Spokane caught the attention of the BC Lions and he continued his success in the CFL. Franks made an immediate impact with the Lions tallying 70 tackles and three interceptions. His second season in BC was cut short after he suffered a season-ending leg injury earlier this year.
"Stanley is going to bring a lot of intensity to the defense and I think we need that. He was always a very aggressive player and I know he will be a very aggressive coach," Olson explained. "Clay is one of those guys with a lot of insight; he has played with a lot of people and he has played this game for a long time. I think he will be a very knowledgeable O-line, D-Line coach. Both Stanley and Clay are very level-headed people. I think they will be able to talk to their players and help them through situations and coach them at the same time. "
In addition to Franks and Harrell, Olson's staff will include Assistant Head Coach Travis Crusenberry who will serve as the defensive coordinator. Olson will call the offense and coach the special teams.
