Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
PEORIA, IL - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers dropped their fourth straight game when the Peoria Chiefs defeated them 7-5 on Wednesday night at Dozer Park. Wisconsin grabbed an early lead only to see the Chiefs pull ahead and stay ahead for the remainder of the game for the second night in a row.
Jose Cuas put the Timber Rattlers (23-27) ahead with a lead-off home run in the top of the second inning. The homer was the third of the season for Cuas.
The Chiefs (21-31) came back to take the lead in the bottom of the third inning with four runs against reliever Zack Brown. Dylan Carlson started the inning with a double. Jose Martinez drove in Carlson with a one-out single. Stefan Trosclair was next and he singled before Brown got the second out of the frame. However, Brian O'Keefe put Peoria in front with a single that scored Martinez. The throw to the plate allowed both runners to move into scoring position. Ryan McCarvel followed with a single that drove in two more runs and the Chiefs had a 4-1 lead.
Ronnie Gideon brought the Rattlers back to within a run. The Wisconsin first baseman had a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to send Tucker Neuhaus home. In the sixth inning, Gideon blasted a solo homer - his second home run of the season - with two outs and the Rattlers trailed 4-3.
Andrew Young put the Chiefs back up by three runs with a two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the sixth against Aaron Myers.
Wisconsin pulled back to within a run in the top of the seventh. Joantgel Segovia, who had singled earlier in the game to move his hitting streak to seven games, lined a single up the middle to drive home Trey York and Caleb Whalen with one out and Peoria's lead was down to 6-5. A walk to Mario Feliciano put the tying run into scoring position and the lead run to first with one away, but both runners were left stranded.
Juan Yepez gave Peoria an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with a leadoff home run off Daniel Brown.
Demi Orimoloye started the Wisconsin ninth inning with a bunt single against Brady Bowen, but the Rattlers couldn't do anything with it and dropped to four games under .500 for the first time this season.
The final game of the series - and of Wisconsin's eleven-game road trip - is set for Thursday night at Dozer Park. Thomas Jankins (3-3, 4.39) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Jordan Hicks (6-1, 3.61) is set to start for the Chiefs. Game time is 7:00pm.
