Wednesday night at Pohlman Field featured the Snappers largest margin of defeat this season and the first win by the road team in the season series with the Clinton LumberKings. Beloit falls back to .500 for the 13th time in 2017 and finish the month of May with a record of 15-15, narrowly missing their first winning month since June 2013.
Nick Thurman and Kristian Brito each hit grand slams for Clinton, both off Snappers starter Mitchell Jordan. The LumberKings franchise had not seen a grand slam hit since August 16, 2014 in Clinton against the Snappers when Tyler O'Neil hit a slam against Joey Wagman. Anthony Jimenez hit a third home run for Clinton in the fourth inning while facing Jesus Zambrano. Beloit pitchers have allowed 10 home runs in their last three games.
Edwin Diaz drove home the first two runs of the game for Beloit in the bottom of the first with a single to extend his hitting streak to 11 games, the longest by any Snappers hitter this season. Miguel Mercedes cracked his 10th homer of the year to lead off the sixth inning. Nate Mondou went 2-for-4, his third straight mulit-hit game and 17th of the campaign. Luis Barrera also finished the game with a pair of hits by going 2-for-5 on the night.
