Paredes' Five No-Hit Innings Spoiled in Loss

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - .The River Bandits dropped game two of three with the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 3-0, on a warm Wednesday night at Perfect Game Field. Bandits' starter Enoli Paredes held the Kernels hitless in his five innings of work.

Through four innings, both starting pitchers combined to strike out 14 batters. Paredes struck out four and Cedar Rapids' (30-23) Tyler Wells fanned 10 through the first four frames. Wells was pulled after the fourth. Paredes was yanked after five, allowing one baserunner on a walk with one out in the third.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth. Yohan Ramirez came out of the bullpen for Quad Cities (26-25). After a one-out single, followed by a walk and hit batter, Lewin Diaz drove a sacrifice fly to left to give the Kernels a 1-0 lead. Diaz struck again off Ramirez in the eighth. With two men on, Diaz pulled a ball into the right field corner. Ariel Montesino scored from second, but Jermaine Palacios was tagged out at home on a relay throw. A few pitches later, a wild pitch from Ramirez scored Diaz from third, handing Cedar Rapids a 3-0 lead.

Ramirez (0-1) pitched 2.2 innings and allowed three runs, two of them earned. Colton Davis tossed two innings of scoreless relief for the Kernels, improving his record to 3-1 with the win. The Kernels used five pitchers to combine for 17 strikeouts.
