PEORIA, IL - The Peoria Chiefs built a lead that was just big enough and they held on for a 6-5 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Tuesday night at Dozer Park. The loss was the third straight for the Timber Rattlers.

Wisconsin (23-26) took the lead with single runs in the first two innings. Monte Harrison knocked in the run in the first inning. He stepped in with runners at the corners and one out. His grounder to third turned into a force out at second, but Harrison was able to beat out the throw to first to deny the Chiefs an inning-ending double play and allowed Joantgel Segovia, the runner at third, to score. Demi Orimoloye had a sacrifice fly to score Jose Cuas from third in the second inning for a 2-0 lead.

Peoria (20-31) came back with four straight hits in the bottom of the second inning to score three runs. Brian O'Keefe doubled and Ryan McCarvel singled to start the rally. Vince Jackson drove in O'Keefe with a single. Jose Martinez would single to load the bases. Nick Plummer tied the game with a sacrifice fly that got McCarvel home from third and moved Jackson to third base. An RBI fielder's choice by Shane Billings allowed Jackson to score the go-ahead run.

Andrew Young hit a leadoff home run for the Chiefs in the bottom of the third. One out later, Brian O'Keefe hit another home run and the Chiefs were up 5-2.

The teams traded runs in the fourth inning. Cuas tripled to start the top of the inning and scored on an RBI grounder by Caleb Whalen. In the bottom of the fourth, Billings singled with two outs and stole second. JR Davis followed with a single to get Billings home and the Chiefs had a 6-3 advantage.

The Timber Rattlers chipped away in the seventh inning with a run thanks to a Peoria error. Harrison drew a walk with two outs and Ryan Aguilar singled to center. Harrison raced around to third base and Aguilar took second on the throw to third. Cuas hit a hot shot that deflected of the Peoria third baseman and Harrison scored.

Wisconsin cobbled together another two-out rally in the top of the eighth. Mario Feliciano reached on a walk and Segovia singled to put runners on the corners. Peoria went to the bullpen and brought Yeison Medina in to face Tucker Neuhaus. Medina struck out Neuhaus, but the third strike went all the way to the backstop to allow Neuhaus to reach and Feliciano to score and bring the Rattlers to within a run.

Medina walked Aguilar and Cuas to start the top of the ninth and Trever Morrison bunted both of the runners into scoring position. However, Media regrouped and struck out the next two batters looking to end the game.

Wisconsin was not retired in order in any inning on Tuesday night. They had at least two runners on base in each of the last five innings and drew a total of seven walks in the game. However, they stranded thirteen runners and went 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position in the loss.

The second game of the series is Wednesday night at Dozer Park. Zack Brown (2-2, 5.22) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Mike O'Reilly (2-1, 1.64) is set to start for the Chiefs. Game time is 7:00pm.
