
Rascals Take Second Straight From Grizzlies

O'FALLON, MO.-The River City Rascals used a successful formula Saturday afternoon to defeat the Gateway Grizzlies for the second straight day. River City scored three times in the first inning Saturday and held on to defeat the Grizzlies 7-4 in the first of a day-night, split-city double header. The series continues at GCS Ballpark beginning 7:05 pm.
The Rascals (2-0) added two runs in the third to extend their lead to 5-0. Kevin Kotch got the Grizzlies on the board in the fifth, leading off the inning with his first home run of the season to make it 5-1. The Grizzlies (0-2) trailed 7-1 when they plated three in the sixth.
Stephen Douglas walked to open the frame. Stephen Holdren reached on an error by River City second baseman Jo Jo Batten. Batten then threw the ball away allowing Holdren to go to second and Douglas to score. Chad Rothford followed with a towering home run to right to make it 7-4. Rothford finished 1-4 with the pair of RBIs.
Adrian Cantu was 2-4 for the Grizzlies.
Joel Boeschen (0-1) surrendered five runs in just four innings in his first professional start. He struck out six. Rascals' rookie Tyler Musselwhite (1-0) earned the win in his first professional start. He allowed four runs on three hits in 5 1/3 innings.
