
Rascals Sweep Split-City Doubleheader Over Gateway

SAUGET, IL - The River City Rascals weren't fazed by the drive from O'Fallon to Sauget Saturday afternoon, taking down Gateway 11-5 in a split-city doubleheader. The Rascals pounded out 16 hits in the nightcap for their 11 runs.
The Rascals (3-0) waited until the third inning to start the scoring as Kevin Reynolds blasted his first home run of the season. River City busted the game open in the fifth when 11 hitters came to the plate. Scott Robinson, Chad Maddox, Jorge Gutierrez, and Cameron Howell all plated runs in the frame.
Gateway (0-3) got in the run column in the fourth on a Jareck West double, maing it a 3-1 game before the Rascals five runs in the fifth. The Grizzlies got two more each in the sixth and ninth innings, including a two-run homer by Breck Draper in the ninth.
Chris Ingoglia (1-0) gave the Rascals another solid start, working five innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out seven.
Justin Lilly (0-1) became the third Grizzlie starter to pick up a loss. The right-hander lasted only four innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
Scott Turmail, Eric Cordell, Jason Lowey, and Mike Hart each tossed an inning in relief of Ingoglia.
Gutierrez continued his hot hitting, going 3-5 with a game-high five runs batted in. Reynolds, Robinson, Maddox and Chris Raniere all had two hits for the Rascals.
The Rascals have scored 25 runs on 44 hits through the first three games of the series. River City goes for the four-game sweep tomorrow at GCS Ballpark. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. with a 5:45 p.m. pre-game show on 590 the Fan KFNS and KFNS.com.
