Knapp returns with clutch hit in 5-3 win

CRESTWOOD, Ill. - Robbie Knapp returned from a beaning the night before to double three times and drive in the go-ahead runs in the Rockford RiverHawks' 5-3 comeback win Saturday at Windy City.
Knapp broke a 3-3 tie with a two-out, two-run opposite-field double in the top of the seventh inning. On Friday, he left the game after he was hit in the head by a pitch in the ninth inning. The beanball shattered his helmet and forced him from the game.
Windy City took a 3-2 lead on three two-out hits. In the third inning, Tyler Farrar singled in a run and scored on a squeeze-bunt single by Mike Sullivan. Former RiverHawk Bryan Cook doubled to the fence in left to drive home a run in the sixth.
In the seventh, Rockford loaded the bases with one out and brought all three runners home. Robert Sabates tied the game with a sacrifice fly and Knapp doubled to right field with two away to drive home the go-ahead runs. Knapp was 3-for-4.
Rockford starter Brett Durand (1-0) gave up 11 hits over six innings, but struck out six without a walk for the win. Adam Dominick (0-2) lost in relief.
The Rockford bullpen pitched three innings of one-hit relief. Jose Mateo pitched two innings and John Muller pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save.
The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 17th season this summer. The RiverHawks play their home opener at 7:05 p.m. May 26 against the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti. The RiverHawks host the 2009 Frontier League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. on July 15.
