River City Rascals News Release

O'Fallon, Mo. - River City sent 15 batters to the plate in the eighth inning, and scored nine runs on eight hits in the frame, to erase a 6-1 deficit en-route to a 10-6 win over the WildThings Thursday night.

The Rascals were behind 3-0 before they came to bat after Justin Sarratt surrendered a two-run homerun and three walks in the first before settling down to pitch seven innings.

River City stranded five runners, four in scoring position, in the first two innings in what was shaping out to be another tough night offensively. Washington (28-40) extended their lead to 4-0 with three singles in the fourth before the Rascals (34-35) struck with a run in the fifth on a Doug Sanders RBI single that scored Eric Williams after his first of five walks (a single-game franchise record) to lead off the inning.

A solo homerun pushed the Washington lead to 5-1 in the seventh before adding another run in the eighth off Justin Gill (3-2) following a leadoff walk and double.

The WildThings used five pitchers to get through the eighth inning. Chris Andreas started the inning with a walk before Ben Hewett picked up his first extra-base hit with River City while batting right handed to score Andreas. Matt Serna drove in Hewett with a single to close the score to 6-3 before a Williams walk and Curran Redal single closed the gap to 6-4. Jeremy Synan worked a bases loaded walk to cut the deficit to 6-5 before Charlie Lisk drove a single through the left side for the game-winning hit. Andreas added an RBI single before Lisk scored from third on an error. Serna drove in the final run for the Rascals before Jason Sullivan pitched around a leadoff error to finish the game.

River City heads to Gateway for a three-game series over the weekend. You can catch all the action on Westplex News-Talk 1280AM or online at www.westplexnewstalk.com.
