Lancaster Stormers News Release

All year long, a lead going into the ninth inning meant a win for the Lancaster Barnstormers.

All year long, the defense has turned key double plays.

Neither happened late Tuesday evening as Camden rallied for four runs in the top of the ninth, dropping the Barnstormers, 10-9, at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The loss dropped Lancaster 4 1/2 games behind York in the Freedom Division's second half standings.

With the Barnstormers leading, 9-6, entering the ninth, Jonah Bayliss (2-2) was summoned to work toward his 19th save. Instead he never recorded an out. Jonel Pacheco led off the inning with a fly ball home run on to the picnic tents in right field. Toby Hall lined a single into center, bringing the tying run to the plate. Juan Francia slapped a grounder to the right of third baseman Terry Tiffee, who flagged the ball but made a wide throw to second, pulling Gilberto Mejia off the bag. Lloyd Turner singled up the middle to load the bases, bringing Bayliss' night to an end.

Evan Englebrook was summoned from the bullpen and got Noah Hall to ground to Mejia. The second baseman's throw to shortstop Iggy Suarez was wide, but Suarez held the bag. Then, the relay throw to first pulled Tommy Everidge off base, allowing Hall to reach safely as a run scored. Alvin Colina made the Barnstormers pay dearly with a double into the left field corner, knocking in two more for the 10-9 lead.

Fernando Hernandez got the side in order in the bottom of the inning for his first Atlantic League save.

Four singles off John Halama in the first inning gave Camden an early 2-0 lead, but it was quickly erased.

Wayne Lydon picked up a one-out walk and stole second in the bottom of the inning. Tommy Everidge thundered a double over the head of Jonel Pacheco in center to produce one run, and Fernando Seguignol lofted another double just past the outstretched glove of right fielder Ruddy Yan to tie the game.

The Barnstormers would strike for six more in the second to chase starter Humberto Sanchez. Brandon Jones walked, and Suarez singled to right. Matt Tupman laid down a perfect drag bunt, and Turner's short throw back to first in a scramble rolled away, allowing Jones to score. Mejia tripled down the right field line to score two more, and he, in turn, came home on a single to center by Everidge. Seguignol reached the far corner of the picnic tent for a two-run homer and an 8-2 lead.

Colina homered in the fourth to cut one off the lead, and Noah Hall singled home another in the fifth. Newcomer Jake Eigsti blasted a two-run shot to the hill in left center in the sixth to cut Lancaster's lead to 8-6.

Santos Hernandez (1-0) earned the win after allowing a leadoff double to Everidge in the bottom of the eighth.

The Barnstormers and Riversharks will square off once again on Wednesday evening at 6:30. Matt Wright (7-10) will get the start for Lancaster against lefty Carlos Vasquez (10-5). The game will be aired on Fox Sports Radio, 1490, WLPA and streamed live on sportsjuice.com and ibnsports.com.

NOTES: Everidge has 40 doubles for the season, two shy of the league record...He has once again tied Bridgeport's Wes Bankston for the RBI lead with 92...Mejia's triple was his 10th of the season...The game was the longest nine-inning game for the Barnstormers in 2011 at 3:58...Lydon moved into fifth all-time in Atlantic League steals with the 167th in his career, just in three seasons.
