Ogden Raptors News Release

The Ogden Raptors held on to win the final game of the first half against the Idaho Falls Chukars 7-6 Saturday night at Lindquist Field.

Leading 7-4 going to the ninth, the Chukars made things interesting. With one out, Cesar Gonzalez doubled down the left-field line. After Jecksson Flores flied to center for the second out, DonAndre Clark hit an infield single to put runners on the corners. Once Clark stole second, Luis Valenzuela and Wander Franco hit consecutive RBI singles to left to make it a one-run game. Lenix Osuna then relieved Joe Broussard for Ogden. After a wild pitch put runners on second and third, Osuna got Brandon Thomasson to ground out to shortstop to end the game.

The Raptors got on the board in the first inning. Joe Meggs was hit by a pitch to start the game for Ogden. Cody Bellinger followed with a double to right field to put runners on second and third. Ivan Vela and Justin Chigbogu hit back-to-back run-scoring singles to put Ogden ahead 2-0.

Hunter Redman started the second inning with a solo homer to left field. Redman's home run was the first of his career and extended the Ogden lead to 3-0.

After Idaho Falls tied the game with a three-run home run by Valenzuela, the Raptors took the lead for good in the fifth. Meggs and Bellinger started the inning with doubles. After a groundout moved Bellinger to third, Chigbogu brought him home with a sacrifice fly to center, putting the Raptors up 5-3.

Abdiel Velasquez earned the win for Ogden. The right hander pitched six innings and allowed four unearned runs on just two hits.

The Raptors finished the first half 15-23 and nine game out of first place. The 15 wins were the fewest for Ogden in a half since 2001 when the Raptors finished the first half 14-22, 14 games behind 29-9 Provo.

The Raptors and Chukars will finish their two-game series Sunday as they start the second half. Jose De Leon will take the mound for Ogden against Javier Reynoso. Game starts at 4:00 and can be heard on 97.5 The Zone.
