OGDEN - Playing with Superman-inspired jerseys, the Ogden Raptors seemed faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound in a 9-7 win over the Grand Junction Rockies Saturday night at Lindquist Field.
The Raptors got on the board early, scoring three runs in the first. Billy Bereszniewicz showed off his superhuman speed with a leadoff triple. Then, Melvin Santana drove him in with a single. Three batters later, Justin Chigbogu hit a two-run homer, displaying his incredible strength and giving the Raptors a 3-0 lead. Chigbogu's homer was his league-leading 20th of the season.
Once the Rockies tied the game with three runs in the second, the Raptors tied it back up in the bottom half. This time it was Cody Bellinger hitting an RBI single and scoring on a double by Julian Leon to put Ogden back ahead for good, 5-3.
Victor Gonzalez earned his fourth win by pitching five solid innings. The lefty allowed three runs, one earned, on six hits with three strikeouts.
Joe Broussard finished the game by striking out the side in the ninth and earning his fourth save.
At the plate, a night after setting a season-high with 18 hits, the Raptors had 19 on Saturday. Every starter had at least one hit. Bellinger hit two of a season high four triple for the Raptors as part of a three-hit game. Leon also had three hits with two double and three RBI.
The Raptors magic number is down to two. If Ogden beats Idaho Falls and Orem beats Grand Junction, the Raptors clinch the second half.
The Raptors welcome the Idaho Falls Chukars for a three-game series, starting Sunday. Right-hander Brock Stewart takes the mound against Mike Jeffreys. Game starts at 4:00.
