Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

IDAHO FALLS, ID -- The odds of Idaho Falls making the playoffs were slim entering tonight. At the end of the night, those chances became none. The Chukars handled their business, knocking off Orem 5-1 in the series finale. But, Ogden's win over Grand Junction eliminates Idaho Falls from playoff contention.

On a day the Pioneer League named five Chukars to the All-Star team, it was the less heralded members doing the damage. Three straight singles by Brawlun Gomez, Pedro Gonzalez, and Luis Valenzuela got Idaho Falls on the board in the second inning. One more scored in the frame with a groundout by Jeckkson Flores.

Kyle Zimmer once again set the tone with a scoreless first inning, and Emilio Ogando picked it up from there. The left-hander went the next three hits allowing just one run on a solo homer by Pedro Pizzaro. Ogando gave way to Eric Stout who was untouchable. After allowing a leadoff walk, Stout (5-2) went on to retire the final nine batters he saw in order in a three inning span. Matt Strahm worked around three hits to keep Orem off the board in the final two innings.

The Chukars got production from All-Star Corey Toups in the fifth. The shortstop singled, scoring DonAndre Clark. The center fielder bunted his way on base before swiping second and third. The final two tallies came in the seventh, as Brawlun Gomez delivered a two run single.

Idaho Falls finishes the season with five straight games against the Ogden Raptors. The Chukars can play spoiler to the current first place team in the South starting tomorrow.
