VOYAGERS SPLIT DH

The Voyagers and Brewers split a doubleheader Saturday at Kindrick Field with Great Falls taking game one 5-2, and Helena taking game two 7-5. In the opener, the contest was tied at one in the fifth when Patrick Palmeiro came through with a two-out single to put Great Falls in front. Louie Lechich then followed with a single of his own to make it 4-1. That lead was enough for Dane Stone who went five innings to collect his team-leading sixth win. Devon Davis then came on to work the final two innings to earn his second save and snap the Great Falls losing streak at three. In game two, the Brewers jumped out to a 5-1 lead early on. In the middle innings, Lechich, Hunter Jones, and Ethan Gross each drove in a run for the Voyagers as they closed the gap to one. In the sixth, Brandon Diaz tripled for Helena to drive in two more to give him three on the game and five during the doubleheader. Great Falls got one run back in the seventh, but it was not enough.

STONE-ING THE BREWERS

In his second start of the season against Helena, Voyager right-hander Dane Stone again pitched well, giving up a run on five hits in five innings while collecting his sixth win of the year, a team high. The Miami, Fla., native also faced the Brewers back on July 4 at Centene Stadium, allowing a run on four hits in seven innings of work. The righty earned a no decision in that start, and also struck out 10, his career-high.

THAT'S A WRAP

The Voyagers and Brewers wrap-up their 2014 season series this afternoon with their 16th and final meeting. Great Falls has owned the season series thus far, taking 10 of the first 15 meetings, including five of the seven contests at Kindrick Field in Helena. The Voyagers record against the Brewers is their best mark against any other North Division foe this season, as they are 7-7 against the Billings Mustangs and 6-8 against the Missoula Osprey.
