Chukars Blasted by Playoff Hungry Raptors

OGDEN, UT -- Idaho Falls scored the first two runs of the game, and looked in control. Ogden proves again that it's more than comfortable playing from behind. The Raptors score 13 of the next 14 runs to pound the Chukars 14-4 en route to capturing a playoff berth.
Brandon Thomasson homered in the second inning to put Idaho Falls in front 2-0. The Raptors kicked their offense into gear in the bottom half of the frame. Two of Ogden's seven doubles came in the second inning, part of the four hits that scored three runs. Mike Jeffreys (2-3) ran into more trouble in the third inning, allowing two more runs thanks to two more doubles.
Shane Halley couldn't fare much better in the fourth inning. Jimmy Allen connected with a run scoring single. Allen finished the game 4 for 5 with two doubles and three runs scored. Julian Leon later struck with a two run single to put the Raptors in comfortably in front.
Most of the Chukars hope was lost in the sixth inning. Idaho Falls loaded the bases with two outs, and had Brandon Downes at the plate. On the first pitch to him, the catcher John Cannon threw to third base and picked off Mike Hill to end the inning and keep the score 8-3. In the bottom half of the frame, Ogden ballooned their lead, scoring five runs off of Cruz Guevara.
Before the game, both Chukars manager Omar Ramirez and Raptors skipper Jack McDowell shook hands in the lineup exchange with the umpires. This marked the first meeting between the two teams since a fight back in July started by the skippers.
Idaho Falls continues the five straight games with Ogden tomorrow. Jake Newberry is slated to pitch for the Chukars.
