Ogden Raptors News Release
HELENA - For the fifth-straight game, the Ogden Raptors' (5-6, 24-25) pitching staff held an opponent to less than four runs, paving the way for a 6-2 victory on the road over the Helena Brewers (3-8, 19-28) on Monday night. After scoring only three runs over a combined 14 innings in Sunday's doubleheader, the Raptors' bats awakened to the tune of six runs.
Adam Bray, Kevin Brown, and Colin Hering pitched eight scoreless innings for the Raptors, while Misja Harcksen only allowed two unearned runs in the ninth to close out the ballgame. The Ogden offense was led by Jake Henson, who hit a two-run triple in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
Bray started for the Raptors and allowed a leadoff single to Malik Collymore, who then advanced to second on a fielding error by centerfielder Logan Landon. Bray promptly retired the next three batters, and scattered three more hits before exiting the game after four scoreless innings.
With Bray's scoreless start, Ogden starters have only allowed three runs in the five games since the all-star break, all of them coming in Jairo Pacheco's start in game one of Sunday's doubleheader.
"(We've been) attacking hitters and getting ahead of guys," Bray said. "Competing has been the biggest thing, just competing up there, letting the defense work behind us, and we made some good plays today."
Joshua Torres (2-2, 3.60 ERA) did not allow an Ogden baserunner through 3 2/3 innings, but with two outs in the fourth inning, the Raptors finally got to the Helena starter. Gage Green drew a walk followed by back-to-back singles by Alex Santana and Matt Jones, the latter driving in Green.
After a 1-2-3 fifth inning, the Raptors again roughed up Torres in the sixth. A one-out fielding error by shortstop Jake Gatewood allowed Chris Godinez to reach, and Torres then threw away a Green sacrifice bunt attempt, allowing runners to safely reach second and third. Santana hit an RBI single to score Godinez, and Jordan Tarsovich walked to set up Henson. A balk by Torres allowed Green to score, and Henson hit a sinking liner to left that got past Collymore, and rolled all the way to the wall for Henson's first triple of the year. Kelvin Ramos drove in Henson to round out the scoring for Ogden.
The five-run sixth inning was the fifth consecutive game in which the Brewers have given up at least four runs in an inning, dating back to their weekend series vs. Idaho Falls.
Brown (1-0, 2.30) pitched two scoreless innings, striking out four to earn his first win of the season. Hering racked up three more strikeouts to extend his team lead to 36.
The Brewers threatened in the ninth against Harcksen, who allowed a leadoff single to Jonathan Oquendo. A two-out throwing error by Ramos on a ball hit by Jose Cuas allowed runners to advance to second and third, and Milan Post, Harcksen's fellow Dutchman, singled home two runs, before Harcksen induced a groundout to end the game.
The Raptors and Brewers play game two of their three game series Tuesday night at Kindrick Legion Field at 7:05pm MT. Michael Boyle (1-1, 1.64 ERA) starts for Ogden, while the Brewers start Conor Harber. As always, games can be heard at Ogden-Raptors.com or on the TuneIn mobile app.
