Great Falls Voyagers News Release
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (August 10, 2015) - Jackson Glines blasted his first career homer in the top of the 10th inning, as the Great Falls Voyagers completed a late comeback for an 8-7 series-opening win over the Grand Junction Rockies Monday night at Suplizio Field.
Trailing 7-3, the comeback began in the seventh for the Voyagers (7-4, 24-23). Dante Flores started things off with an RBI single, and then a pair of errors by Grand Junction (2-9, 22-27) allowed a second run to score.
Great Falls then tied it up with two more in the eighth. The first run came in on an RBI bounce out from Glines, before Johan Cruz scampered home on a wild pitch to tie things at seven apiece.
Dylan Barrow (2-2) came on to work the eighth and ninth for the visitors and allowed the lead-off runner to reach both times, but pitched around those situations to get the game to extra innings and eventually earn his first professional win.
Hunter Brothers (2-2) had been cruising along for Grand Junction retiring the first six he faced, before allowing the Glines blast, which was the center fielder's first long ball as a pro.
The Voyagers then turned to Danny Dopico for the bottom of the tenth, and the righty struck out the side to earn his team-leading fifth save of the year.
Both starting pitchers struggled early, and both offenses took advantage. In the first, Grand Junction starter Mike Nikorak gave up a walk and a hit batter to the first two he faced, and both came around to score when the righty surrendered a two-run double to Antonio Rodriguez.
Evin Einhardt struggled in his half of the first as well, hitting a batter and walking three on his way to giving up three. Collin Ferguson was hit by a pitch to get the Rockies on the board and Jensen Park tied the contest with a single, before a fielder's choice put Grand Junction in front.
The lead did not last long for the Rockies, as Great Falls tied it in the second on an RBI single by Johan Cruz.
The Voyagers continue their three-game series against the Rockies Tuesday night at Suplizio Field. Great Falls will send right-hander Matt Ball (1-4, 7.09) to the mound, while Grand Junction will counter with fellow righty Parker French (2-2, 4.19). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., and coverage will begin at 6:50 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
