Raptors Take Series Opener

August 11, 2015 - Pioneer League (PL)
Helena Brewers News Release

The Helena Brewers (3-8) dropped their series opener 6-2 to the Ogden Raptors (5-6) on Monday at Kindrick Field. It was Helena's fourth loss in five days.

Joshua Torres (2-2) got the start for Helena, pitching five quality innings before getting roughed up in the sixth.

He would toss 3 2/3 perfect innings, retiring the first 11 batters he saw. He would walk Gage Green with two outs in the fourth to end the streak and allow consecutive singles after that. Matt Jones hit an RBI single to center to open the scoring.

Torres finished with six runs on four hits through 5 2/3 innings of work while striking out six. Torres had not struck out more than four before Monday.

Ogden opened a sizeable lead in the sixth when they scored five runs on three hits. Jake Henson led the way with a two-RBI triple, his first three-bagger of the year.

Brad Kuntz made his Pioneer League debut, throwing 3 1/3 of shutout relief for Helena.

Four Ogden pitchers combined to throw 8 2/3 innings of shutout baseball before the Brewers broke through for a run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Jonathan Oquendo led off the inning with a single and scored later on the two-RBI single of Milan Post along with Jose Cuas. Cuas has come up with five hits in his last two games.

The Brewers have now lost six of their last seven home games and are 5-14 since the middle of July.

The two teams will face off in the second game of their three-game series Tuesday at Kindrick Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
