Ogden Raptors News Release
OGDEN - The Raptors (14-14) scored four runs on five hits in the first inning and won 5-2 over Great Falls (14-10) despite only getting two more hits the rest of the way, thanks to a strong outing on the mound from Jairo Pacheco and company.
Pacheco (2-2) retired the first seven batters he faced and only allowed three hits in five innings. The lone run surrendered came on a solo home run from Zach Fish.
The Raptors offense got off to a hot start with a leadoff double by Deion Ulmer followed by an RBI triple by Nick Sell and an RBI single from Willie Calhoun. Two batters later, Matt Jones ripped an RBI triple down the right-field line and scored on Michael Medina's first-pitch RBI single. Jones added a solo home run - a 430-ft shot, routine by Jones' standard - to pace Ogden to a 5-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, Ulmer was hit by a pitch that ricocheted off his hand and struck his face. He left the game with a headache and dizziness, but no fractures, and will be re-evaluated tomorrow.
The Raptors handed Brannon Easterling (2-1) his first loss of the season, although the right-hander settled down after the first inning, only allowing one run and one hit for the next three innings.
Pacheco exited the game after five innings, relieved by Corey Copping and Adam Bray, who both made their professional debuts. The two combined to throw two scoreless, hitless innings. Colin Hering finished the final two frames, allowing one run and three hits while striking out three batters in a non-save situation.
The rubber match begins tomorrow at 7:00pm with Isaac Anderson (1-0, 0.93) making his first professional start against Brandon Magallones (1-1, 6.94). Fireworks Friday will feature postgame fireworks immediately following the game.
