Helena Brewers News Release
The Helena Brewers (11-13) and Grand Junction Rockies (14-12) split another doubleheader on Thursday with a 4-2 Brewers win in game one and a 6-2 loss in game two.
Jordan Yamamoto (1-3) collected his first professional win in his second year in the minors, pitching 5 2/3 innings, giving up two runs and striking out seven batters. It was the third time this season he has struck out seven in a game.
Grand Junction took a 1-0 lead in the first game when Jonathan Piron tripled and scored on the single of Bobby Stahel in the second inning.
Helena tied it up 1-1 when Troy Stokes doubled to score Carlos Belonis off Michael Zimmerman. Stokes led the way offensively for the Brewers in game one, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
The Brewers then solidified the win with three runs in the sixth on two hits. With the bases loaded, Carlos Belonis doubled to score George Iskenderian and Jose Cuas.
Joshua Torres picked up his first save of the season, pitching the final four outs for Helena, recording one strikeout and facing the minimum.
Christian Trent threw five innings of solid baseball in the start in game two for the Brewers, giving up two runs on just three hits and striking out five.
Donnie Hissa (0-2) and Chad Reeves struggled in relief, combining to give up four runs on four hits.
Monte Harrison would reach in every plate appearance of the nightcap, drawing four walks and stealing three bases. He is now tied for the team lead with 12 swipes.
The Rockies used four late runs in game two to take home the win, scoring three in their final inning at the plate.
The Brewers and Rockies will play in the rubber match of their five-game series Friday at Kindrick Field. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
