Ogden Raptors News Release
The Ogden Raptors halted a seven-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over the Idaho Falls Chukars Tuesday night at Lindquist Field.
Pitching was the key to the win as J.D. Underwood earned his first win of the season by bending but never breaking. Underwood allowed just one run in five innings on five hits with seven strikeouts. The right-hander stranded runners at third base in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings.
Reliever Trevor Oaks came in next and pitched three shutout innings with four strikeouts to preserve the lead.
Lastly, A.J. Vanegas closed the door with his first professional save with a hitless ninth with two strikeouts.
The Raptors took the lead with two runs in the fifth. Down 1-0 with one out, Yensys Capellan and Kelvin Ramos hit consecutive singles. After Joe Meggs walked to load the bases, Jaylen Harris hit an RBI fielder's choice to score Capellan from third. A wild pitch brought in Ramos to give the Raptors a 2-1 lead.
Ogden extended its lead in the seventh. With one out, Devan Ahart delivered a pinch-hit single to center. Two batters later, Harris dropped down a perfect bunt down the line that hit the third-base bag. Once a walk to Justin Chigbogu loaded the bases again, Julian Leon had his third hit of the game, a single to center that scored two and gave the Raptors a 4-1 advantage.
The Raptors and Chukars finish their three-game series Wednesday. Right-hander Abdiel Velasquez starts for Ogden against Bryan Brickhouse. Game starts at 7:00 with fireworks following. The game can be heard on 97.5 The Zone.
