Great Falls Voyagers News Release
HELENA, Mont. (July 1, 2014) -The Great Falls Voyagers had their losing streak extended to five games Tuesday night, falling 3-1 to the Helena Brewers at Kindrick Field.
For the second day in a row, strong pitching kept the offense down for the Voyagers (8-8) for much of the contest. Starter J.B. Kole worked four innings for Helena (7-8), allowing just a run on three hits in his first professional start.
The lone run of the night for Great Falls came in the fourth. Newcomer Hunter Jones bunted his way aboard, stole second base and then Jake Peter drove him home with a two-out single to tally the only Voyager run of the night.
Great Falls threatened a few times over the next few frames against reliever Josh Uhen (1-1), but were not able to break through. Zach Fisher tripled with one out in the sixth, and Mason Robbins made his way to third after a double in the seventh, but both were left stranded.
The Brewers took the lead early against Voyager starter Zach Thompson (0-1). Luis Aviles picked up an RBI triple in the second, and then Elvis Rubio drove a run in with a single in the third to give Helena a 2-0 advantage.
The last tally of the night for either side came in the sixth. Helena executed a suicide squeeze play with Eric Williams bringing in Dustin DeMuth to push the Brewer lead back to two.
The Voyagers and Brewers finish up this quick two-game series tomorrow night at Kindrick Field. Great Falls will send lefty Chris Freudenberg (0-2, 1.84) to the mound while the Brewers will turn to righty Chad Thompson (2-1, 3.75). First pitch is set for 7:05 and coverage will begin at 6:50 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
The Voyagers return to Centene Stadium on Thursday for a quick two-game series with the Helena Brewers. For tickets to any Voyagers home game this season, call (406) 452-5311 or visit gfvoyagers.com.
