VOYAGER SKID HITS FIVE
Great Falls losing streak was stretched to five Tuesday night, as the Brewers knocked off the Voyagers 3-1 at Kindrick Field. Helena scored a pair of runs in the early going against Great Falls starter Zach Thompson, and rode their pitching the rest of the way to earn their first win of the season series. The lone Voyager run came in the fourth when newcomer Hunter Jones used his speed to help manufacture a run. Jones bunted his way aboard, swiped second, and then scored on a single by Jake Peter.
CHRIS CAN'T BUY A WIN
Through three starts, Voyager lefty Chris Freudenberg owns the second-best ERA in the Pioneer League among qualified starters. He has yet to give up more than two earned runs in any of his outings, but has been saddled with two losses and had one no decision. The southpaw will look for his first win of 2014 tonight in his first start against Helena.
OFFENSIVE STRUGGLES
The Great Falls offense scuffled again last night in their loss to Helena, scoring one run to match their lowest output of the season, a mark they have now hit three times in 2014. The Great Falls offense now finds itself at or near the bottom in the Pioneer League in several offensive categories. Their runs per game output ranks last in the league at 4.1 per contest, which is 0.8 runs lower than anyone else in the league. In terms of team batting average, the Voyagers .248 mark ranks only ahead of Billings (.243).
ANOTHER PROMOTION
The Voyagers had a roster move for the third straight day Wednesday as infielder Ryan Leonards earned a promotion to Low-A Kannapolis. A 21st round pick last month, Leonards hit .333 in nine games with Great Falls. He becomes the third Voyager to earn a promotion to the Intimidators in 2014, joining lefty Jeff McKenzie and righty Brad Salgado.
