Ottawa Voyageurs News Release

(WORCESTER, MA) June 13, 2008 - The Ottawa Rapidz offense was shut down by the home team pitchers as they lost in dramatic fashion 4-2 against the Worcester Tornadoes.

Francisco Caraballo started the fire for the Tornadoes in the top of the second inning, hitting a long homerun into left-center field. The home team added three more runs in the third inning. The Tornadoes doubled their lead on Jeff LaHair's second homerun of the season. Chris Colabello made it 4-0 Worcester on another homerun, after Scott Grimes reached base on a single.

The Rapidz got on the board in the top of the seventh against Eddie Pena when Jose Salas hit a grounder to second base to score Jereme Milons, to cut the lead to 4-1. The visiting team pushed it to the limit, scoring another run in the top of the ninth, as Salas added another RBI on a single. With two outs and the bases loaded Pete Pirman struck out swinging to end the game.

Junior Guerrero (2-1) got his second win of the season for the Tornadoes, being near-perfect in allowing only three hits in six innings of work. Rapidz' starter, Noel Baca III (1-3) pitched well but that was not enough to earn his team win. In 5.2 innings on the mound he allowed four earned runs, on six hits, with three of them being homeruns while striking out four. John Birtwell came in the ninth, allowing an earned run, before saving his fifth game of the season for the Tornadoes.

The Rapidz and the Tornadoes square off again on Saturday, June 14 at 6:05pm. Greg Bunn (0-1, 12.60 ERA) will get the start for the Rapidz, facing Ryan Mitchell (1-0, 1.69 ERA) for the Tornadoes.

Before the game the Ottawa Rapidz acquired David Keesee from the El Paso Diablos of the United League for a player to be named later. This is the second trade by the Rapidz this week. Keesee should help Ed Nottle's team, adding more depth to the Rapidz infield. A Los Angeles native, Keesee can play at third or second base, as well as shortstop. The 28-year old has been playing in independent baseball since 2003. In 265 games and 850 at-bats, he boasts a .241 batting average. Keesee stands at 5'11" and weighs in at 180 pounds.
