
Pride's Streak Snapped by Quebec â Nashua Falls 7-2

(Nashua, N.H., June 13, 2008) The Quebec Capitales ended the Nashua Pride's recent winning streak at four games, beating Nashua 7-2, behind a tremendous performance from starting pitcher Eric Beavers.
Beavers lasted eight innings, giving up just two runs, on six hits, one walk, and two strike outs, to improve his record to 2-2 on the season. Right-hander Mark James was the lone man out of the bullpen for the Capitales, he pitched a perfect ninth inning.
Quebec got all the offense they would need off of Pride starter Hideki Nagasaka in the top of the fourth inning. The Capitales sent eight hitters to the plate, combining for four runs on four hits in the frame. Quebec catcher Gregg Stevens finished the night 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI, first baseman Eddie Lantigua went 2-for-5 with a double and a home run, while third baseman Patrick Deschenes was 1-for-3 with a home run and a pair of walks.
Nagasaka suffered his first loss for the Pride. In five innings he gave up six runs, on six hits, three walks and five strike outs. Reliever Jason Paul tossed three scoreless innings, giving up one hit, with one walk and five strikes outs. Chris Torres also pitched an inning for the Pride, he gave up one run on three hits.
Nashua designated hitter Dennis Abreu finished the night 2-for-3 with a home run. Center fielder Vinny Pennell had the only other RBI, he finished the night 1-for-4. Pride catcher Aregenis Tavarez extended his hitting streak to ten games with a two-out double in his final at-bat of the game.
The Pride and Capitales will play game two of the three game series on Saturday night, when the Pride send Lance Stevens (3-0) to the mound. Quebec is expected to start Michel Simard (2-0). Following the game, Atlas PyroVision Pyrotechnics will provide a fireworks extravaganza.
The Nashua Pride Professional Baseball Club, entering its 11th season, provides a fun, affordable, community-based and fan-friendly source of sports entertainment.
