Colorado Rapids News Release

The Colorado Rapids (11-14-7, 40 pts., 8th West) head out for their final road match of the regular season on Saturday, October 4, visiting Real Salt Lake (11-16-4, 37 pts., 11th West), their rivals on the other side of the Rocky Mountains. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. MT, with coverage on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, Altitude Sports Radio, La Invasora, ColoradoRapids.com, and the Rapids app.

Since 2005, the Rapids and the Utah side have battled for the Rocky Mountain Cup (RMC), awarded annually to the winner of the regular-season series. Colorado reclaimed the trophy last year after winning two of three RMC meetings, led by Homegrown midfielder Cole Bassett. The Rapids will retain the RMC again this year with any result other than a loss by two or more goals. A successful defense would mark the Rapids' first back-to-back RMC titles since 2006 and 2007.

With just two matches remaining, the Rapids control their playoff destiny. Colorado currently sits eighth in the Western Conference with 40 points and, if the season ended today, would host the Western Conference Wild Card match against San Jose.

Bassett has continued his decisive play in RMC matches. He assisted the game-winner in May's 1-0 home victory and now has six goal contributions in his last four RMC appearances (3 goals, 3 assists). He enters Saturday one goal away from becoming the Rapids' all-time leading scorer in the competition, currently tied with Diego Rubio at four goals. Bassett already holds the club's all-time RMC assists record with four.

That same May 17 win also marked Bassett's 100th MLS appearance, adding another milestone to his already decorated role in the rivalry.

The Rapids have also had the upper hand in recent history, winning three of the last five meetings in the series, including one on the road.

Colorado enters the match following a 1-1 draw with third-place Minnesota in their most recent outing. Defender Rafael Santos opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time with a free kick, his first goal for the club and first in MLS, extending his run to four consecutive matches with a goal contribution (1 goal, 3 assists). Minnesota equalized in the 65th minute to split the points.

The Utah side, meanwhile, has dropped two of its last three contests. Most recently, they earned a 3-1 home win over Austin FC, snapping a slide that included back-to-back 4-1 defeats to LAFC.

The Rapids will look to complete the season sweep in RMC play, strengthen their playoff position, and carry momentum into their regular-season finale. Colorado closes the campaign at home on Decision Day, October 18, against LAFC, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. MT.
