Minnesota United FC News Release
GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - The 2025 MLS regular season is coming to its end, and Minnesota United enter their final home game of regular season play this weekend. Just three points separate the Loons from first place in the Western Conference, with only two matches left before the Audi 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs. Saturday's clash against Sporting Kansas City at Allianz Field - notably the club's Fan Appreciation Game, presented by Target - blends the drama of a playoff race with a night dedicated to celebrating the fans who have supported and powered the team all season long.
Minnesota return to Allianz Field after a stretch of performances that have kept them near the top of the conference table. Most recently, the Loons earned a 1-1 draw on the road against the Colorado Rapids, with 22-year-old Nectarios Triantis scoring the equalizer to secure an important point away from home. Earlier this season, Minnesota and Sporting Kansas City battled to a 3-3 draw in March, with Hassani Dotson opening the scoring and Tani Oluwaseyi netting a brace to secure a valuable road result. Now, back on home turf, the Loons look to build momentum.
Sporting Kansas City come into Saturday's match after a 4-1 road loss to LA Galaxy. Dejan Joveljic struck in the first half to give Sporting an early breakthrough, but the hosts answered with three goals in the first half, and a late finish from Diego Fagundez to seal the result. A second-half red card to Shapi Suleymanov compounded the challenge, leaving Kansas City shorthanded for the remainder of the game. SKC are eliminated from playoff contention, but will look to regroup and spoil Minnesota's final home fixture of the regular season.
Saturday night carries all the intensity of playoff soccer for the home side. For MNUFC, it's not only a chance to keep pace in the Western Conference title race, but also an opportunity to thank the fans who have visited Allianz Field with energy all season. Between the stakes on the field and the celebrations off it, the Loons' final home match of 2025 promises to be a night to remember.
HEAD COACH ERIC RAMSAY ON HAVING A FACING SPORTING KANSAS CITY ...
"Dangerous, I would say, in that sense, because they're [Sporting Kansas City] still a team that creates a lot of chances. They're a team that gets in the opposition's box almost more than any team across all MLS teams. [Sporting Kansas City] has got some very good forwards, high-paid forwards that can cause you a problem, but they're - I'm not going to gloss over it in front of the players - they're in a really difficult spot. One [goal for Saturday] is to mitigate that sort of looseness that the game might end up bringing and then us not falling into the trap of giving their forwards big spaces on account of any complacency that might creep in; it's our responsibility as a home team tomorrow to go and play well and do what we should do."
