
SKC Visits Minnesota United FC on Saturday

Sporting Kansas City will play the team's penultimate match, and final away game, of the season with a road trip to face Minnesota United FC at 7:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Allianz Field in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The Western Conference match-up will be available to watch in English (Tyler Terens and Kyndra de St. Aubin) and Spanish (Carlos Mauricio Ramirez and Max Cordaro) via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV with local radio coverage on 94.5 FM or 1510 AM (Blake Aerni and Jon Kempin). Pub partners in the Sporting Pub Network will also show all of the action, including a watch party at No Other Pub in the Kansas City Power & Light district featuring $4 domestic drafts, $5 wells and 50% off nachos for fans in SKC gear starting at 5:30 p.m. ¬â¹ ¬â¹ ¬â¹ ¬â¹ ¬â¹ ¬â¹ on Saturday.
Sporting Kansas City and Minnesota United have met 26 times in all competitions since the Loons joined MLS in 2017 -- the most of any opponent for both teams -- and SKC leads the all-time series with a 12-9-5 record. The teams last met in March in a wild 3-3 draw in snowy conditions at Children's Mercy Park as Sporting erased a three-goal deficit to secure a result for the first time in club history. Minnesota took a 3-0 lead behind Hassani Dotson's early opener and a brace from Tani Oluwaseyi -- who was transferred to Villarreal in August -- before Sporting responded with three goals in a 12-minute span highlighted by strikes from Daniel Salloi and Dejan Joveljic.
Joveljic scored again last weekend in Sporting's 4-1 loss at the LA Galaxy and the Serbian striker's 18 goals this year are fourth most in MLS and second most in a single regular season by an SKC player all-time. The 26-year-old Designated Player is the first player with back-to-back 18-goal seasons in MLS (regular season and playoffs) with different clubs after he scored 21 goals for the Galaxy in 2024.
Fellow forward Mason Toye earned the assist on Joveljic's goal a week ago and now will have the opportunity to face his former team on Saturday. Selected by Minnesota United as the seventh overall selection in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft, Toye tallied seven goals and four assists for the Loons from 2018-2020. In his only previous appearance against his former club, Toye scored twice in CF Montreal's 4-0 victory over Minnesota in 2023.
While Sporting has lost four straight games, and each of the team's last five road matches, Minnesota United FC sit in third place in the Western Conference just two points out of first with two games remaining in the regular season. Minnesota has already recorded the most wins (15) and points (52) in a regular season in club history and will compete in the MLS Cup Playoffs for a sixth time in seven years as the Loons chase a first trophy in the team's nine-year history.
Led by 34-year-old manager Eric Ramsay, Minnesota ranks last in MLS in average possession (41.4%) and passes per game (342) however lead the league with 18 goals from set pieces. Offensively, Designated Player Kelvin Yeboah is the club's leading scorer with nine goals however Yeboah has missed the last two matches with a thigh injury. Designated Player Joaquin Pereyra has a team-best 10 assists to go along with four goals, while Finnish international Robin Lod has contributed five goals and six assists.
Defensively, Minnesota is anchored by captain Michael Boxall. The New Zealand international has played for Minnesota in each of the club's nine seasons in MLS to become the Loons all-time leader in appearances (241). In net, Canadian Men's National Team goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair boasts the best save percentage (.798) of any MLS goalkeeper with at least 500 minutes played this season.
Minnesota acquired U22 Initiative Player Nectarios Triantis in August via a transfer from Premier League side Sunderland and the Australian has three goal contributions (two goals, one assist) in his first three appearances, including his first MLS goal with a strike from beyond midfield on Sept. 13 as well as the equalizer in Minnesota's 1-1 draw at Colorado last weekend.
In addition to Saturday's showdown at Allianz Field, Sporting KC and Minnesota United FC will also meet in MLS NEXT and MLS NEXT Pro action this weekend at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minnesota. The SKC Academy will play Minnesota United in a tripleheader on Saturday beginning with the U-18's at 10 a.m. CT, followed by the U-16's at 12 p.m. CT before concluding with the U-15's at 2 p.m. CT. Sporting KC II will play the team's season finale against MNUFC2 at 3 p.m. CT on Sunday live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
