January 23, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kitchener Rangers News Release
David Miller and Mike Davies scored for the Kitchener Rangers in a 2-1 win over the Kingston Frontenacs on Friday night. Darby Llewellyn added a pair of assists in the victory, while goaltender Jake Paterson stopped 39-of-40 en route to first star honours.
The Rangers capitalized on their first power play opportunity of the night, opening the scoring 3:31 into the first period. Darby Llewellyn's shot on goal was blocked by Lucas Peressini, but the rebound bounced onto the stick of David Miller, who snapped it by the netminder's left skate. His 15th goal of the season was also assisted by Brandon Robinson.
The Rangers led shots on goal 12-10 through the opening 20 minutes.
Kingston pulled even seven minutes into the middle frame, when sophomore forward Shawn Tessier recorded his first career OHL goal, firing a point shot that rattled past Rangers starter Jake Paterson. Nathan Billitier and Corey Pawley picked up the assists on the play.
The Frontenacs out-shot Kitchener 18-10 in the second period.
Mike Davies scored the game winner for the Rangers less than two minutes into the final period, picking up a pass from Llewellyn and sweeping a shot by Peressini. The second-year winger's career best ninth of the season was also assisted by defenceman Dylan DiPerna.
Kingston led shots on goal 12-8 in the third and 40-30 overall. Paterson made 39 saves and was named the contest's first star. The former Spirit netminder is 4-1-1-0 since joining the Rangers in a trade earlier this month.
With the win, the Rangers (20-14-3-6) split their season series with the Frontenacs with one win apiece.
