Oshawa Generals News Release

The Generals took to home ice tonight to take on the North Bay Battalion for the fifth time this season. The crowd was electric from start to finish at tonight's game and were certainly impressed by the end of the game as the Generals defeated the Battalion 5-3.

This very evenly matched game was rather uneventful in the first period, with zero goals being scored in the first frame. The game started with an early penalty for the Generals as Bradley Latour was called for high sticking at only seven seconds in. The next penalty was to North Bay; two minutes for tripping to Kosack. Less than a minute later, Brenden Miller and Mike McCarron were both sent to the penalty box for roughing. Although the Generals had several great scoring chances throughout the period, nothing got past Battalion goaltender, Jake Smith. Latour took another high sticking call with less than two minutes remaining in the first and the game remained scoreless. The Generals outshot the Battalion 11-3 in the first.

The game took a turn in the second when the intensity picked up greatly. At 2:49, Miller was looking for a fight and dropped the gloves looking to fight Michael McCarron. McCarron however wasn't interested and skated away from Miller. Miller was given a 10 minute game misconduct and McCarron sat for two on an unsportsmanlike conduct call. The period was extremely back and forth between these two skilled teams and it wasn't until a power play opportunity for the Battalion that the first goal of the game was scored. Ray Huether (brother of Kenny) was the first to light the lamp on the Battalion power play. Assists on the goal went to Amadio and Miller. The Generals retaliated quickly though and Brent Pedersen evened the score at 14:53 on a goal assisted by Lindberg and McCarron. The Generals needed to put one more goal up and were successful with just over a minute remaining in the period. Matt Mistele scored his first goal as a General, assisted by Mermis and Cassels and the period ended with the Generals up 2-1 over the Battalion. Shots during the period were more even with the Generals outshooting the Battalion 12-11.

It was quite a third period tonight as the Generals scored another three goals to secure their win tonight. Penalties were few in the third period which allowed for some great chances for the Generals. Matt Mistele scored his second goal of the game at 13:42 in the third, assisted by Pedersen and Brown, giving the Generals a 3-1 advantage over the Battalion. The next goal was scored unassisted by Michael Dal Colle with three minutes remaining in the third. The Battalion scored another quick goal only 14 seconds later, put in the net by Nick Paul. With only 15 seconds remaining in the period, the Battalion made it a close game when Amadio scored another goal, narrowing the Generals lead to only one goal. In a last attempt to tie things up, the Battalion pulled their goalie but it was Cole Cassels who scored with less than 10 seconds remaining. The Generals took the win 5-3, outshooting the Battalion 39-27 through the game. Kenny Appleby took home another win in his 35th start this season for the Generals.
