Oshawa Generals News Release
The Generals earned another two points tonight in their 5-2 win over the rival Peterborough Petes at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
Things started off hot for the Generals with a quick goal from Kenny Huether, assisted by Dakota Mermis and Cole Cassels. Will Petschenig, who returned to the Generals lineup tonight, took the first penalty of the game and sat for two minutes on an interference call. A few minutes later, the Petes even the scored when Eric Cornel was able to put one past Kenny Appleby. The Generals held strong offensively and Tobias Lindberg scored on a great pass from Brent Pedersen, giving the Generals a 2-1 advantage as the period came to a close. The Generals dominated shots on goal in the period, outshooting the Petes 20-9.
On pace to have 60 shots on goal, the Generals entered the second eager to keep scoring. Less than a minute into the period, Cole Cassels was called for roughing but the Petes couldn't make anything of the power play. In fact, Brent Pedersen found himself on a breakaway but was stopped before he could make it a goal. A short time later, Bradley Latour took a puck to the ankle and didn't return to the game. Just past the halfway point of the period, Michael Dal Colle put one past Matthew Mancina, assisted by Matt Mistele and Will Petschenig. This marked Mistele's first point as a General. Less than a minute later, the Petes retaliated and Dominik Masin scored a goal assisted by Lorentz and Betzold. At 16:21, the Generals were on their first power play of the night, but it ended less than a minute later as Mistele served a Generals penalty for too many men on the ice. At 19:17, Betzold was called for high-sticking, meaning the Generals would start the third on a power play. The second period closed with the Generals leading the score 3-2 and outshooting the Petes 36-20.
The third period went by in a flash and the Generals secured their win in the final frame of the game. The Petes took an early penalty at 3:34 as Lorentz was called for high sticking. Michael Dal Colle scored the power play goal, this time assisted by Chris Carlisle and Tobias Lindberg, bringing the Generals lead to 4-2. With only minutes remaining in the game and on a Generals penalty kill, Tobias Lindberg scored an unassisted, empty netter goal and finished things off for the Generals with a score of 5-2. The goal marked Lindberg's third point of the night, earning him first star of the game. Ken Appleby recorded his 28th win of the season in Peterborough tonight.
