
Ranallo Leads Stingrays Past Gladiators

Duluth, GA - Forward Marcello Ranallo scored two goals and forward Tyler McNeely added two assists as the South Carolina Stingrays (1-0-0-0) defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators (1-1-0-0) 5-2 in their preseason opener at The Duluth Ice Forum in Duluth, GA. The Stingrays wrap up the preseason tomorrow against the Greenville Road Warriors at 6:00 p.m. at the Carolina Ice Palace in North Charleston.
The Gladiators opened the scoring on the power play at 17:42 of the first period when defenseman Cody Carlson lifted a shot over the glove of Stingrays goaltender Shawn Hunwick (W, 36 saves on 38 shots) from the top of the left-wing circle. Forwards Kyle Lawson and Doug Jones added assists.
The Stingrays responded with three goals in the second period to take a 3-1 lead into the second intermission. Ranallo tapped a pass from McNeely past Gladiators netminder Mike Lee (L, 19 saves on 23 shots) at 10:32 for his first goal of the preseason. Moments later, forward Patrick Cullen found the twine from forward Andrew Sackrison at 12:04. Ranallo struck again with help from McNeely at 18:30. Forward Alden Hirschfeld added the second assist.
Gladiators forward Casey Pierro-Zabotel pulled the game within one at 17:18 of the third period from forwards Kale Kerbashian and Christian Ouellet. The Stingrays sealed the victory with tallies from forwards Dylan Clarke at 18:59 and Hunter Bishop at 19:30. The Stingrays went 0-for-4 on the power play while Gwinnett finished 1-for-5.
