Titans Offense Explodes in Third Period, Win 6-2 over Reading

Trenton Titans News Release
Voorhees, NJ - The Trenton Titans, ECHL member and proud affiliate of the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers, scored four unanswered goals in the third period to break open a close game and run away with a 6-2 road win over the Reading Royals at the Sovereign Center Saturday night. With the win, Trenton closes out its preseason slate of games, 1-1 against the division rival.
Trenton struck first at 14:06 of the first as West Point-grad Marcel Alvarez got his first professional point with a wrister in close over the shoulder of Reading goalie Phillipp Grubauer. Three minutes later - after five point-blank saves by Grubauer - Titans captain Ray DiLauro banged home a rebound from a sharp angle to make it 2-0.
Adam Comrie cut the lead to 2-1 with his second goal of the preseason - a shorthanded goal just a minute into the second. Titans' goalie Cal Heeter allowed Reading to get no closer, stopping 11 shots in the period.
Greger Hanson pushed the lead back to 3-1 just 32 seconds into the third. Andy Bohmback, Drew Akins and Matt Germain finished the onslaught, each scoring within a three-minute stretch midway through the frame to put the game away.
Heeter stopped 30 shots to get the win for Trenton. Grubauer had 23 saves in the loss. Despite the short-handed goal, the Titans' power play improved, going 1-for-4 after going 0-for-4 the night before. Their penalty kill was solid as well, stopping Reading's lone opportunity after giving up four goals on the Royals' man-advantage Friday.
Camp will continue this week as Trenton prepares for the season opener on Friday. The Titans' flagship radio station - 107.7 FM The Bronc - will host the inaugural Titans Coaches Show on Tuesday October 9 at 8 pm, from Killarney's Publick House in Hamilton Township, NJ. Head Coach Vince Williams will be on hand to talk about the preseason and the upcoming campaign. DiLauro is scheduled to appear as well.
The Trenton Titans returned in the 2011-12 hockey season after a five year hiatus and boasted a 26.1% increase in attendance over the previous year, the largest of any team in the 20-team ECHL. Opening Night for the 2012-13 season is October 12 at home against the Greenville Road Warriors.
