Rampage's MacLean Selected to 2009 Canadian AHL All-Star Team

SAN ANTONIO (January 6, 2009) - The American Hockey League today announced that San Antonio Rampage left wing Brett MacLean has been selected to play for Team Canada in the league's 2009 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Charter Communications, which will be played later this month at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.

MacLean, a native of London, Ontario, is among 21 skaters and three goaltenders, including 17 first-time AHL All-Stars, named to the squad that comprises of players born in Canada. The 21-year-old is the eighth player to be nominated to represent the Rampage in the annual event and was chosen to participate in his first AHL All-Star Classic by a committee of the league's coaches.

MacLean has recorded 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists) in 25 games which currently ties for the team lead. He also leads the team with a plus-5 ranking. Last year, with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League, he tallied 61 goals in 61 games and totaled 119 points.

The first-year pro was the Phoenix Coyotes' third choice in the 2nd round (32nd overall) of the 2007 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

The PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team roster will be announced on Wednesday.

Of the 455 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 94 percent have competed in the National Hockey League, including Patrice Bergeron, Brad Boyes, Dan Boyle, Brian Campbell, Zdeno Chara, Rick DiPietro, Jiri Hudler, Miikka Kiprusoff, Kari Lehtonen, Ryan Miller, Zach Parise, Martin St. Louis, Jason Spezza, Eric Staal and Tomas Vokoun.

The 2009 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Charter Communications will feature the top young talent in the American Hockey League competing in the 2009 AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Sunday, January 25 (4:00 p.m. ET), and the 2009 AHL All-Star Game on Monday, January 26 (7:00 p.m. ET). The event will be televised nationally in the United States and Canada.
