Brian Elliott Named Starter For 2009 All-Star Classic

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Brian Elliott has been selected starting Canadian goaltender for the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Charter Communications, to be played later this month at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass.

The Reebok X-Pulse/AHL Goaltender of the Month for December 2008, second-year pro Brian Elliott has won an AHL-high 18 games and currently ranks tied for sixth in goals-against average (2.31), second in save percentage (.926) and second in minutes played (1,691) for Binghamton in 2008-09. Elliott posted a career-high 48 saves in the B-Sens 5-4 win over Worcester on Nov. 8.

The native of Newmarket, Ont., was drafted by Ottawa in 2003 and won an NCAA championship at the University of Wisconsin in 2006. He made his NHL debut for the Senators on Oct. 10, 2007, stopping 28 shots in a 3-1 victory at Atlanta.

The 2009 AHL All-Star Classic presented by Charter Communications will feature the top young talent in the American Hockey League competing in the 2009 AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Sunday, January 25 (4:00 p.m. ET), and the 2009 AHL All-Star Game on Monday, January 26 (7:00 p.m. ET). The event will be televised nationally in the United States and Canada.

Of the 455 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 94 percent have competed in the National Hockey League, including Patrice Bergeron, Brad Boyes, Dan Boyle, Brian Campbell, Zdeno Chara, Rick DiPietro, Jiri Hudler, Miikka Kiprusoff, Kari Lehtonen, Ryan Miller, Zach Parise, Martin St. Louis, Jason Spezza, Eric Staal and Tomas Vokoun.
