Rampage Swept by Wolves 2-1

SAN ANTONIO- The San Antonio Rampage (0-4-0-0) dropped their fourth-consecutive game at home 2-1 to the Chicago Wolves (2-3-0-0), after landing an early goal in the fourth minute of regulation. San Antonio outshot Chicago for the second-consecutive night, but couldn't find the back of the net following Turner Elson's goal in the first frame. Despite falling to the Wolves, Elson walked away with the Rampage's lone goal on the night, earning him the Second Star of the Game.

Similar to Saturday night's contest, the Silver and Black began with a fast pace and strong fore-check. A.J. Greer and Trent Vogelhuber collected assists when Elson grabbed a loose puck from the corner and cut his way towards Chicago's Ville Husso. Elson made a flashy play in front of the net and ultimately put the Rampage up 1-0 just 3:05 into the game.

Chicago wasted no time in the second frame as they found the back of the net at the 3:17 mark. Wade Megan sent a shot from the blue line that ricocheted off a skate toward Brett Sterling who was in the right place at the right time. The left winger had an open lane on Spencer Martin's backside, and buried the puck to tie the game at one.

Despite outshooting their opponent 30-26, the Silver and Black were unable to pull off the win. The Wolves landed the game-winning goal in the 11th minute of the final frame when Brad Hunt's shot deflected off a Rampage defender and into the back of the net. San Antonio's netminder was in position to stop the initial shot until it took the untimely bounce.

Martin finished the night with 24 saves on 26 shots, while holding Chicago 0-2 on the power play and stopping Sterling's second-period penalty shot. The Rampage had seven power-play opportunities, but failed to convert against the Wolves stingy penalty-kill unit.

Notes Turner Elson's first period goal served as his first in a Rampage uniform and his 39th professional goal. The New Westminster native has collected one goal and one assist overall during San Antonio's first four games of the season.

Lineup Notes Jim O'Brien landed on the Rampage's first line with Joe Whitney and Mike Sislo, while Mikko Rantanen, J.T Compher and Rocco Grimaldi formed the second line. Turner Elson returned to rightwing and skated with A.J. Greer and Trent Vogelhuber on the Silver and Black's third line, while the fourth line remained unchanged.

Besides Sam Jardine moving into the Rampage lineup with Sergei Boikov, the Rampage's defensive pairs remained the same as Saturday night. Spencer Martin received his second start between the pipes in the 2016-17 campaign.
