San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage swept a weekend set with the Lake Erie Monsters, as Jon DiSalvatore scored two goals to bookend a 4-2 victory Sunday at the AT&T Center.
DiSalvatore extended his point streak to five games with a goal in the game's opening minute and an empty-netter in the final seconds to secure the 4-2 victory. Travis Roche equaled a team-high this season with three points, all assists, and Bill Thomas scored the game-winning goal and added a helper for his third multiple-point night in five games.
The Rampage jumped on top quickly with a goal in the first minute of action.
Thomas intercepted a Lake Erie attempt to clear the puck from their zone. All-star Joey Tenute skated in from behind, gathered the tumbling puck and found Jon DiSalvatore in a crowd near the crease for the quick score just 49 seconds in. DiSalvatore has points in eight of nine games, compiling four goals and five assists during that time.
Lake Erie evened things with 58 seconds left in the first period on a power-play rebound from Wyatt Smith. They then took the lead with a fluke goal at the halfway mark of the game that trickled by Josh Tordjman, 9:59 into the second stanza.
Coach Greg Ireland called a timeout after the goal, and the Rampage picked up their play in response. The defense stiffened, keeping Lake Erie off the board the remainder of the night, and the offense clicked.
The Rampage knotted the game up on Roche's first assist. The defenseman poke-checked the puck away on a Lake Erie rush to teammate Sean Sullivan, who pushed it up to Matt Murley. Murley glided into the Lake Erie zone and fired a wrister from the left dot to even the score, 2-2, at 13:38 of the second frame.
Thomas reclaimed the lead for the Rampage when he corralled a puck that bounced off two Lake Erie sticks deep in their zone for the score. Thomas took sole possession of the team lead with his 20th goal of the season. He has a current five-game point streak (four goals, four assists), and points in seven of eight overall.
DiSalvatore's empty-net marker came with 32 seconds left. Roche recorded his third assist on the goal, also tying a team-high this season.
Rampage netminder Josh Tordjman stopped 26 of 28 shots on goal to get his 19th win of the season. He has set back 312 of the last 333 shots sent his way for a phenomenal .937 save-percentage, and has held the opponent to three goals or less in 16 of his last 18 games (11-3-1-3).
The Rampage moved a franchise record 15 games over .500 (31-16-3-7) with the win and took points for the 14th time in 17 games (9-3-1-4), over a month's worth of hockey. They remained two points behind Rockford, who earlier defeated Milwaukee, for second-place in the AHL West.
The Rampage will be holding College Night as the first-place Chicago Wolves coming to town for a two-game set, commencing at 7 p.m. Wednesday night at the AT&T Center. College students with a valid I.D. can get a hot dog, soda, chips and a lower-level ticket all for just $9.60.
