Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
TORONTO, ON - Duncan Milroy had a goal and two assists and the Hamilton Bulldogs allowed a season-low 15 shots in a 3-1 win over the Toronto Marlies on Sunday afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum. With the win, the Bulldogs extended their season-high point streak to seven games and improved their record to 29-21-2-5 on the season.
The Bulldogs opened the scoring at 11:19 of the first period when Duncan Milroy walked out from behind the Marlies net and stuffed the puck past goaltender Scott Clemmensen. Ajay Baines and Kyle Chipchura earned the assists on Milroy's 14th goal of the season.
The teams split a pair of first-period goals with Hamilton on a power play. Toronto evened the score 1-1 when Alex Foster potted an unassisted shorthanded marker at the 13:41 mark. The 'Dogs restored their one-goal lead with a power-play goal at 15:06 of the frame courtesy of Mikhail Grabovski. Milroy and Mathieu Carle drew helpers on Grabovski's seventh tally of the campaign.
In a scoreless middle stanza, the Bulldogs tied a franchise record by allowing only one shot on goal. The Club originally set the mark in the first period of a 1-0 win against the Hershey Bears on February 6th, 2002. Hamilton has never held its opponent shotless in a period.
Grabovski then sealed Hamilton's 3-1 win with an empty-net goal with just 29 seconds remaining in the final frame. Milroy picked up the lone assist on the play to earn his third point of the night.
Between the pipes, Jaroslav Halak was near perfect in the win for the Bulldogs, stopping 14 of 15 shots, while Clemmensen made 25 saves on 27 shots in a losing effort for the Marlies.
Hamilton went 1-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. The 'Dogs also out shot the Baby Leafs in all three periods and by a 28-to-15 mark overall.
The Marlies welcomed a franchise record crowd of 8,120 fans at Ricoh Coliseum for the game.
