Peoria Rivermen News Release

The Peoria Rivermen mounted a late comeback but fell just short in a 4-2 loss to the Manitoba Moose on Sunday afternoon at Carver Arena in front of 4,342 fans.

Brad Moran teed up a blast from the top of the left circle and fired the puck over the right shoulder of Hannu Toivonen to give Manitoba (31-23-2-2) a 1-0 first period lead. Jason Jaffray set up the marker at 6:35 with a hand from Jannik Hansen.

In the third period, Colby Genoway and Hansen moved the Moose ahead 3-0 before the Rivermen (29-21-4-4) put the scoring in gear.

At 13:49 of the final frame, Cam Keith picked up a rebound at the side of the Moose net and beat Corey Schneider on the stick side with assists from Hans Benson and Eric Neilson, who registered his first AHL point on the play.

Trent Whitfield followed by tipping home a Micki DuPont shot from the right point at 17:36 with Toivonen on the bench to make it a one-goal game, giving Peoria the opportunity to tie the match.

But a late crosschecking penalty against the Rivermen meant having to play 5-on-5 with an empty net in the Peoria zone, and the Moose capitalized with an empty net power play goal from Ryan Rypien to seal the victory.

Schneider made 30 saves in the game to earn his tenth win of the year while Toivonen turned aside 17-of-20 shots in the loss. Manitoba finished the game 1-for-5 on the power play while the Rivermen went 0-for-5.

Peoria will return to action on Friday night against the Grand Rapids Griffins at 7 pm, with Hannah Montana's Emily Osment (Lilly) appearing from 6-8:30 pm to sign autographs and pose for pictures with fans! It's also Advance Auto Parts Hat Night.

Tickets are on sale now through the Peoria Civic Center Box Office, through all TicketMaster locations, on line at www.TicketMaster.com, or charge by phone at (309) 676-8700.
