Game Notes: Tonight, the Rochester Americans host the West Division's Houston Aeros at The Blue Cross Arena. The 6:05 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks. Head Coach Randy Cunneyworth's quest for win number 300 continues as he looks to become only the second Amerks coach to reach that milestone.
Promotions: The game falls on the next installment of the Amerks' Supercuts $6.00 Sundays. All kids 12 and younger can receive a ticket for just $6.00. After the game, fans can head down to Nathaniel's Pub at 251 Exchange Blvd. to enjoy the official postgame party.
Head-to-Head: Tonight's contest marks the first of two scheduled meetings between the two teams this season. Rochester will complete the season series on Sunday, March 9th as part of five-game road swing. The Amerks are 3-6-3 all-time against the Minnesota Wild's affiliate.
Amerks Notes: Rochester (17-34-4-4, 42 points) enters the contest after being blanked 4-0 by the Binghamton Senators Friday night at The Blue Cross Arena. Mark Mancari remains Rochester's top point-getter with 41 points (15+26), while Stefan Meyer and Marek Zagrapan share the team lead with 16 goals. First-year man Marc-Andre Gragnani skated 6:28 and recorded four penalty minutes in his NHL debut last night as the Buffalo Sabres dropped a 4-3 decision to the New York Rangers at HSBC Arena. With Rochester, Gragnani is currently riding an eight-game point streak (3+6) and leads the team with 28 assists. His 35 points (7+28) currently ranks him second on the team and seventh among all league rookies. Adam Dennis ranks 10th among all league netminders with three shutouts.
Houston Notes: The Aeros (29-22-2-3) are 6-4-0-0 in their last 10 games and have 63 points, placing them sixth in the West Division. Adrian Foster and Erik Reitz share the team lead with 32 points. Reitz ranks first on the team 24 assists, while left wing Peter Olvecky has found the back of the net 14 times this season to lead the Aeros. Nolan Schaefer is among the top goalies in the league, having earned 17 wins thus far this season. His 2.10 goals-against average and .924 save percentage presently rank him first and fourth in the league, respectively. Schaefer also ranks second in the league with five shutouts this season.
Next Game: Rochester kicks off its March schedule with a North Division matchup against the Syracuse Crunch on Friday, March 1st at the War Memorial at Oncenter. The 7:30 p.m. contest will be the eighth of 12 meetings this season and will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks.
