Rampage Rally in Milwaukee to Take a Point
January 23, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
MILWAUKEE - Curtis Fraser scored two goals as the San Antonio Rampage rallied from a two-goal deficit to take a point in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Milwaukee Admirals Wednesday night at the Bradley Center.
Fraser scored in each of the first two periods to double his season total, and the Rampage (23-13-3-4) tallied three unanswered for a 4-3 lead midway through the third period. David Spina gave the Rampage the lead with his ninth goal of the season at 8:17 of the final frame and Chris Durno gathered his second assist of the night.
Milwaukee's (22-17-2-2) Bryan Schmidt scored his first goal of the season nearly three minutes later, knotting the game at 4-4. Janne Niskala then netted the game-winner with a minute left in overtime, Milwaukee's fourth power-play score of the night.
Both teams heated up an awfully chilly night - temperatures were sub-zero at game-time - with five combined first-period goals.
Milwaukee jumped on top with an early power-play goal, 3:11 into the opening period, but just as they did the night before, the Rampage responded swiftly when Fraser tied game less than five minutes later. Fraser received a nifty pass from Brendan Bell, and, in turn, faked a pass to Josh Gratton, who was crashing the net. The fake left Fraser an opening and he took advantage, lighting the lamp at 7:59.
Milwaukee reclaimed the lead at 10:26 and took a two-goal lead with its third power-play goal of the frame at 15:15. Milwaukee entered tonight without a power-play goal in its previous four games.
Jon DiSalvatore gave the Rampage a spark near the end of the first period, scoring a goal with under five seconds remaining to pull his team back to within a goal, 3-2. Fraser added his second marker, and the game-tying goal, a little over halfway into the second 20 minutes. Gratton collected his second assist of the night with the helper.
Josh Tordjman protected the Rampage net for the final 40 minutes and extra time, stopping 19 of 20 shots in regulation and 24 overall. David LeNeveu started the game and took a no-decision, making 11 saves in the first period. Milwaukee's Pekka Rinne won his 20th game with 21 saves.
With the third-period goal the Rampage now have 56 in the final stanza - most in the AHL.
The Rampage are now 8-0-1-1 when a player scores two goals or more in a game this season and have earned at least a point in all three games at Milwaukee so far this season (1-0-1-1).
The Rampage will travel to Houston for a weekend set, beginning Friday at 7:35 p.m. as they continue their 14-game Rodeo Road Trip.
