January 23, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Peoria Rivermen blew open a Wednesday night hockey game by pouring in five second period goals on the Rockford IceHogs en route to a 6-1 dismantling of the home team at the Rockford MetroCentre.
Nicholas Drazenovic started the scoring cavalcade at 6:22 of the middle frame with a slick wrister over the shoulder of Corey Crawford from Charles Linglet and Julian Talbot, with the IceHogs defense giving Drazenovic plenty of time to pick his target.
Later in the period, with the Rivermen killing off a five-minute major power play against, they struck twice for a pair of shorthanded goals that mirrored each other closely. Both times the Rivermen converted two-on-one attempts as first Trent Whitfield scored off a Chris Porter assist and then Martin Kariya cashed in from Cam Keith just 1:15 later to make it 3-1.
Nikolay Lemtyugov registered his first of two on the night with an even strength goal from the goal line aside of the Rockford net at 16:16. Taking a pass from Steve Wagner, Lemtyugov waited as Crawford slid over on the seat of his pants, and looked for an opening before roofing it past the fallen netminder to make it 4-1.
Jean-Guy Trudel would round out the scoring in the frame at 17:04 with his 14th goal of the year, one-timing a Jeff Woywitka feed from the corner for a power play goal.
Lemtyugov's second of the night at 16:16 of the third period finished the scoring as he capped yet another two-on-one break with Keith feeding him for the goal and a 6-1 final.
Troy Brouwer scored Rockford's lone goal at 9:44 of the first period on a wrist shot from the slot.
Chris Beckford-Tseu was solid in net, turning aside 23-of-24 shots for the win. Crawford was pulled after two periods and allowed five goals on 23 shots. Wade Flaherty mopped up with seven saves in relief.
Peoria will next play in Iowa against the Stars on Friday night at 7:07 pm before returning home Saturday to face the Milwaukee Admirals at 7 pm. Saturday's game features an appearance from Jason Earles, who plays Jackson on the popular Disney Channel show Hannah Montana. He will sign autographs for free from 6-8:30 in the Carver Arena concourse, with color 8 x 10 photos available for just $5 each. Also it's CATERPILLAR Night, with 5,000 collector's commemorative team photos handed out to fans. Plus Meliss' Beauty & Grooming Source is hosting Haircuts for Charity at the game with all proceeds going to the Children's Hospital of Illinios. Finally, Saturday is also 4-H Night, with an exclusive Hockey 101 prior to the game for 4-H members.
